Transformational Leadership Through Action Logics
medium square

Overview

Given the increasing complexity and fast-changing business environment that leaves organisations and leaders feeling overwhelmed, how can we grow and develop ourselves and others to address both local and global needs? Conventional ways of developing leaders often focus on horizontal development, educating on new skills and frameworks. Vertical development focuses on developing a person’s capacity to deal with complexity and uncertainty, focusing on how we think and act in addition to what to do.

This 2.5-hour virtual workshop focuses on deepening the understanding of how we can develop our human capacity to think and act with more confidence, expansiveness and timely action. We will learn about the 7 stages of human development (based on adult developmental theory), where later stages of development expand the capacity to deal with complexity, uncertainty and produce more effective leadership.

Every participant will get the chance to explore their own center-of-gravity action logic in their chosen context through the revolutionary, reflective self-assessment, Shifting Horizons. There is also a chance to buy an individual debriefing session, in addition to the group debrief done in the workshop.

We will use examples and inquire into participants’ cases to explore how to start introducing vertical development into organisational development and leadership programs. What is needed from the organisation and what are the first steps?

About Shifting Horizons

Shifting Horizons is a contextual, accessible and creative self-assessment for vertical development, or adult developmental theory. It invites participants to respond to statements and images about how they operate in a chosen context on good days and bad days. It invites people to reflect on their own approach and offers an indication of the participants’ action logic in the chosen context and suggestions for further development.

Shifting Horizons can be done by individuals, by teams or even whole organisations. When more than 5 people from the same organisation have completed the assessment, a summary report will automatically be generated for team and group debriefs. Shifting Horizons will always be debriefed by a certified Shifting Horizons facilitator. Learn more about Shifting Horizons and our certification programmes here: https://shiftinghorizons.io
